A brief fly-through of our history
Laboratories Besins started back in 1885, on the foundation of one of the oldest pharmaceutical laboratories. Company founder Abel Besins, introduced a tonic wine, Vin de Bugeaud, and achieved international success.
For over one hundred and thirty years, five generations of the Besins family have led the company and invested in bringing innovative hormone medicines to people who need them.
In 2007, the corporate name changed to “Besins Healthcare”, reinforcing our solid global presence.
Our story begins, when Abel Besins founds the company
Jacques Besins takes the reins and develops new products and in-house production
Jean Besins assumes the leadership role and acquires a laboratory focusing on hormone therapy in transdermal gels
Besins acquires a facility in Montrouge, France, to specialise in transdermal gel technology
The focus on transdermal gels pays off with the development of the world's first hormone therapy gel
Besins continues to innovate, launching the first estradiol gel
Besins is established as global leader in hormone therapy with the launch of a micronised natural progesterone
Antoine Besins begins worldwide expansion through partnerships
A testosterone gel is launched and takes off globally
Nicolas and Alexandre Besins begin the process of consolidating and modernising the company to ensure its continued success
